HEPA Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA) hosted a business event entitled “Hong Kong: Gateway to Asian Markets”, aimed at providing Hungarian companies with practical insights and up-to-date market intelligence to support market entry, business development and regional expansion opportunities in Hong Kong and across Asia.
During the event, Hungarian and Hong Kong experts shared their experiences and perspectives on the region’s business environment, market entry requirements and the sectors offering significant growth potential for Hungarian companies.
Among the participants were Katalin Bihari, CEO of HEPA; Dr. Gábor Péter Artner, Deputy CEO of HEPA; Zoltán Páldi, Commercial Attaché in Hong Kong; Indiana Wong, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin; King Chung Lam, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong; Josephine Chan, Senior Manager at Hong Kong Science & Technology Park; Li Mengyi, Operations Manager of HEPA’s China Partner Office; Beáta Balázs, Executive Director of the Budapest Consultant Office of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Zoltán Szekeres, Sales Director at Lightware Zrt.
In her opening remarks, Katalin Bihari highlighted that selecting the right entry point is one of the key factors behind successful international expansion into Asian markets. In this regard, Hong Kong plays a pivotal role. Beyond being a high-income market in its own right, it also serves as a major international financial, trade and logistics hub, providing companies with efficient access to Mainland China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
The event also underscored the steady development of economic relations between Hungary and Hong Kong. Bilateral trade reached nearly USD 2.7 billion in 2025, while Hungarian exports grew by more than 10 percent compared to the previous year. Electronics account for the largest share of Hungary’s exports to Hong Kong, while the transport and machinery sectors have also recorded notable growth.
At the same time, considerable untapped opportunities remain for Hungarian businesses. Hong Kong offers a particularly favourable environment for ICT, artificial intelligence-based solutions, fintech and logistics services. Premium food products and Hungarian wines also have strong prospects in the market, creating further opportunities for Hungarian exporters.
