India is becoming an increasingly important partner in Hungary’s international economic relations, a trend clearly reflected in the India-focused business forum jointly organised by HEPA Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The event, held in Budapest, brought together 21 Indian and 39 Hungarian companies to explore new business and cooperation opportunities.
Economic ties between Hungary and India have been steadily gaining momentum in recent years. As one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, India is offering expanding opportunities for Hungarian businesses, particularly in technology- and innovation-driven sectors. Bilateral trade between the two countries surpassed USD 2.5 billion in 2025, underlining the growing importance of the partnership. While India is becoming an increasingly significant economic partner for us, Hungary can also serve as an attractive gateway for Indian companies seeking access to European and Central European markets.
The foundations of this cooperation are already clearly visible. Several Hungarian companies are successfully present on the Indian market, including Richter Gedeon and HELL ENERGY, while with HEPA’s support, companies such as Proofminder and Puraset have also recently entered the Indian market. At the same time, major Indian companies including Tata Consultancy Services, Apollo Tyres, Motherson Group and JBM Group have established a strong presence in Hungary.
Further strengthening bilateral economic cooperation could be supported by the EU-India Free Trade Agreement signed earlier this year, which is expected to gradually reduce tariff-related and administrative barriers, creating a more favourable business environment for companies on both sides.
The professional programme highlighted sectors where Hungarian industrial and engineering expertise can effectively complement India’s strong technological and digital capabilities. Electromobility, artificial intelligence, healthcare industries, as well as green energy and sustainability solutions were all identified as areas with strong long-term cooperation potential between Hungarian and Indian businesses.
Speakers at the forum included Katalin Bihari, CEO of HEPA; His Excellency Shri Anshuman Gaur, Ambassador of India to Hungary; Girish Luthra, President of FICCI’s Committee on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Chairman of the Luthra Group and András Rév, Chairman of the India Regional Committee at the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Presentations were also delivered by Levente Kardos, commercial attaché and Gábor Szabó, chief advisor at HIPA Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency.
The event concluded with targeted B2B meetings, where representatives of Hungarian and Indian companies engaged in direct business discussions and partnership negotiations.
